The Fabulous Four

If Samuel Alito gets confirmed, the obvious outcome, he will join his comrades: Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and John Roberts to constitute the fabulous four who will help consolidate the power of the extreme right wing and corporate power in this country for many years to come. If I am not mistaken, this nation is undergoing an accelerated de-evolution into an autocratic and oligarchic State.

These four justices are unabashed supporters of an imperial presidency and the pre-eminence of corporate power. The have collectively demonstrated by their judicial decisions that they have little interest in the rights of the individual, rights of minorities, rights of women, rights of gays, and the rights of ordinary workers. They are staunch believers in the supremacy of the aristocracy. Neither true democracy nor social justice has any real meaning for them.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was reported to have made the following comment at John Carroll University, “Most of the rights you enjoy go way beyond what the Constitution requires” because “the Constitution just set minimums.” He went on to say that in wartime, “The protections will be ratcheted down to the constitutional minimum.”

As reported in the press, Samuel Alito made the following claim, "I am particularly proud of my contributions in recent cases in which the government has argued in the Supreme Court that racial and ethnic quotas should not be allowed and that the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion."

This country will be entering and dark and perilous time in its history ushered in by a President that will, most likely, be judged by future historians to be the worst Chief Executive this nation has ever had.
